Julian has a background in painting, photography, sculpture, and multi-media installation.

Julian has participated in many solo and group exhibitions, in New Zealand, Tokyo, and San Francisco.

His work is in private collections in England, Scotland, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, and Dubai.

In 2005 Julian was selected for the Nagasawa Art Park Artist-in-Residence Workshop program for Japanese Woodblock Printmaking, at Awaji-shima Japan.

His video work has appeared in music videos and live visual projections for legendery San Francisco band "Neurosis".

Julian is an honours graduate from the Mediarts School, Waikato Institute of Technology, Hamilton
